Snow, and Other Important Things

Last night we got our first skiff of snow, probably about an inch, maybe a little more. When I got up about 5 a.m., I noticed that it wasn't raining anymore. I peeked out the window through the blinds and got the impression that the ground was covered in white (I didn't have my glasses on, so I couldn't be sure). Once I put on my glasses to double check, there it was: the white stuff had come at last.

I know I've been neglecting this blog, because I've had a lot going on. However, I really should have announced that I completed the first draft of my third novel at 4:25 a.m. on November 14. Under the impetus of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo--info at nanowrimo.org), I'd been making a tremendous push to get it completed. Then I sent it out to several readers, who checked for such diverse things as comma usage, typos, plot structure, places where the dog might appear, neglected characters, scenes I should or shouldn't have written, logic of content, and the like. I've received most of the reports back, so now I'm deep in re-writes.

I had a lovely Thanksgiving Day, traveling about 100 miles to be with 30 other family members and two wolf hybrid dogs. I was surprised at how nicely the dogs acted, except for the couple of times they tried to kill each other. Their owner said they do that every day. It's a dominance thing, and I guess dominance in the animal world must be reasserted every day. Maybe there is a way to slip that into my novel?

Enough about me. How was your Thanksgiving Day?
